With more than 20 years of experience in commercial, construction, and real property litigation, Dante is proven at representing a wide cross-section of domestic and international clients at every stage of the litigation process. He has appeared before mediators, arbitrators, the Ontario Courts, and administrative tribunals across the province.
Dante has handled commercial litigation cases including, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, director and officer liability, professional negligence, product liability, and shareholder, partnership and joint venture disputes.
As a construction litigator, Dante has represented stakeholders at all levels of the construction pyramid. His clients have included owners, developers, general contractors, sub-contractors, suppliers, lenders, design consultants, receivers, condominium corporations, and government agencies on small to large-scale mediations, arbitrations, applications, and actions.
In the land development and real property context, Dante has handled the most complex cases that confront the industry today, and offers innovative and cost-effective results that help clients prosper.
A legacy of success
As counsel to a privately held construction company, Dante led the legal and business operations relative to the development and construction of a $15-million, 104-unit waterfront condominium complex in Windsor, Ontario. He structured, negotiated and administrated the construction financing, and negotiated and drafted a variety of construction-related agreements.
Through the early identification, development and implementation of risk management strategies, Dante has saved clients from financial loss and protracted litigation.
Dante's hands-on experience with condominium construction deficiencies and technical audits continues to be an asset to his clients when dealing with the Tarion Warranty Corporation.
Currently, Dante is the Chair of the Construction & Infrastructure Law Section and an Executive Member of the Real Property Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association.
Understanding the importance of change and keeping with the times, through organization such as the Ontario Bar Association, Dante continues to play an active role in policy development and legislative reform affecting Ontarians. Some of his policy work includes:
- 2011 submissions on Bill 68, proposed amendments to the Construction Lien Act
- 2014 consultation paper and submissions on Bill 69, An Act respecting payments made under contracts and subcontracts in the construction industry
- 2015 consultation paper on Government of Ontario expert review of the Construction Lien Act
- 2016 Government of Ontario review of the Ontario New Home Warranties Plan Act and Tarion Warranty Corporation
Dante is an avid competitive distance runner and regularly raises money for local charities through his running. He sponsors girls’ hockey, has participated in builds with Habitat for Humanity, and volunteers with the food bank and the Kerr Street Mission in Oakville.
He lives in Oakville and is a proud father of three daughters.
